hionafælagh (OSw) hjónafélag (ON) noun

The economic partnership between married spouses. Rarely attested as a compound noun and possibly the same as OSw hionalagh/ON hjónalag. An entire chapter in Jó Kge 3 outlines the rights and responsibilities of each spouse in this kind of partnership. A similar description exists in Grg Feþ 153. According to ÖgL Kb 28 the bishop was empowered to establish or dissolve such partnerships.
