1 The grid reference is approximate for the site of St Margaret's church which stood on the west side of Borough High Street at its junction with Stoney Street. In Henry VIII's reign the parish was united with St Mary Magdalene in the church of the dissolved priory of St Mary Overy, eventually becoming Southwark Cathedral. The old church building of St Margaret was used as the Town Hall.     
2 For Southwark priory's possession of this church 1178X1188 see EEA8 7, 129, and see EEA9 56 and VCHSurrey4 153. The absence of any contemporary or near-contemporary record of presentation suggests that the church may have been served by a directly appointed stipendiary. If so, it would have been appropriated; but for a reference to the 'rector' in 1323 see RegAsserio 515.
