If the patronage is ecclesiastical or monastic, then it may be an appropriated church. This is shown by the "If Appropriated" line below.

The Notes provide supplementary information relating to the benefice or to other data given in the display. Click on the source button at the end of the line to see the full reference(s) for the information. If the note contains a reference abbreviation that is not expanded in the source button, then it should be possible to use the abbreviation to find the full reference in the References Menu (forthcoming). If the note mentions a benefice by benkey rather than by name, the name can be found via the benkey search option, top-right on the screen.

     Notes:
1 The grid reference is for the old church of St Giles which lies in ruins in the village of Downton on the Rock. A second church of St Giles was built in 1861 further to the north within the grounds of Downton Castle.
2 For the presentation by the abbey of Wigmore to the vicarage of Leintwardine (as in 1312) and also to the vicarages of the chapel of Burrington (in 1334) and of the chapel of Downton (in 1352) see RegSwin 541, RegTCharl 78 and RegTrillek 386.
