Chiang as warmonger was a common trope used in early collaborationist cartooning in China, as the Nationalist leader's decision to continue to resist the Japanese invasion was presented in a negative fashion (and in contradistinction to those in China who chose 'peace' with the Japanese). In this particular image, Chiang is presented as a cannibal standing atop a pile of one and a half million skulls while the number of deaths attributable to military resistance is quantified above him.
