[Episcopus Lincolniensis] 1 | | Summa taxationis bonorum spiritualium et temporalium episcopi Lincoln' ubicumque in diocesi Lincoln' Taxatio Ecclesiastica Angliae et Walliae Auctoritate Papae Nicholai IV, ed. T.Astle & S.Ayscough (London, Record Commission, 1802) (listed among temporalities)

|
1 The bishop was assessed at an estimated overall income of Lsd1000.0.0. This was stated to be for all his spiritual and temporal income, but no spiritual income appears to be listed as taxable: three churches became appropriated to the bishopric of Lincoln later than the taxatio, and for these see Holbeach LI.LK.HD.27, Mumby LI.LK.CW.13 and Wooburn LI.BU.WY.02 (and see T 295). The estimated overall income is also stated as from the diocese of Lincoln. The implication is that the bishop had no assessable income from outside the diocese, which would perhaps be surprising.

OXFORD (LI.OX) |
Summa archidiaconatus Oxon' 2410l.11s.0d. variants( var.) The totals in LA 19, LF 111 and CU 117 note the subtracted items in the deaneries OX.CU and OX.DE (see the totals for these deaneries). Lincolnshire Archives Office, Lincoln Dean and Chapter Muniments, A1/11 p.19( var.) The (correct) total in TLIB1 32 is given there also as a half (recte 1205l.5s.4d.) and as a tenth; and then, for the moiety of 1294 (correctly given as 1071l.11s.4d.), again as a half but excluding the items not exceeding ten marks in value (subtracting, that is, 133l.14s.2d., which is half the total full value of the excluded items). T 30-40, transcribed from EB (PRO E164/14) fos 44v-63. (archdeaconries of Oxford, Buckingham, Bedford, Huntingdon and Northampton except deanery of Rutland) p.32

HUNTINGDON (LI.HU) |
Summa archidiaconatus Huntingd' 2686.19s.0d. variants( var.) The archdeaconry total of 2670l.5s.8d. in BC 155v, LA 28v, LF 117, OH 163 is explained by the non-inclusion of LI.HU.HE.19 valued at 16l.13s.4d. Lincolnshire Archives Office, Lincoln Dean and Chapter Muniments, A1/11 p.28v

NORTHAMPTON (LI.NO) |
Summa archidiaconatus Norhampton' 3948l.1s.8d. variants(var.) The totals in the MSS exclude the deanery of Rutland which was assessed with the archdeaconry of Leicester: they thus give a sum of 3323l.15s.8d. to which ha has been added here the sum for the deanery of Rutland of 624l.6s.0d.

LINCOLN (LINDSEY AND KESTEVEN) (LI.LK) |
Summa archidiaconatus Lincoln' 10236l.6s.8d. variants( var.) LA 13 has the total in the margin, in a different hand: Summa taxationis spiritualium archidiaconatus Lincoln' cum dignitatibus et prebendis ecclesie Lincoln' excepto decanatu eiusdem alibi taxato et exceptis emolumentis et proventibus incertis archidiaconorum Lincoln' nondum taxatis 10236l.6s.8d. (LF 97v, CU 106, PLIA2 3d). Lichfield Dean and Chapter Library, MS 23 p.97v( var.) PLIA1 11 adds details (as also in T 62-3) of the reductions made in the reign of Edward III in respect of LI.LK.HO.01-02, 04-05, 11, LI.LK.YA.02, 09 and LI.LK.CA.10. LEICESTER (LI.LC) |
Summa archidiaconatus Leycestr' 3167l.5s.4d. variants(var.) This total is derived from the items themselves since LA, like most MSS, gives no specific total for the archdeaconry but reserves the total until the inclusion of Rutland deanery (in archdeaconry of Northampton but included in this circuit). PLIA3 4, and thus T, has a total of 3166l.12s.0d., because of the unexplained shortfall of a mark in the total for the deanery of Gartree (see LI.LC.GA.T00).

STOW (LI.SW) |
Summa archidiaconatus Stowe 1421l.10s.4d. variants( var.) The diverse set of totals in T 75-6 after the (incorrect) tenth for the whole archdeaconry is identical with, and appears to be derived from, a set of totals on a schedule in a late fourteenth- or early fifteenth-century hand sewn onto PLIA4.
