The Treasurer receives and disburses all Moneys.

The Secretary reads all Letters and Informations, Replies to all Addresses, or Letters from Foreign Parts, or from others; to take notice of the Orders, and material Passages at the Meetings, Registers all their Experiments and Conclusions, and publisheth that which is ordered and allowed by the Society.

The Curators or Experimentors are to receive the Directions of the Society, and at another Meeting to bring all to the Test; and the Society judgeth thereof. Whereby the World may have the concurring Testimony of many Persons of undoubted Credit for the Truth of whatsoever they shall publish.

The manner of Electing of Fellows is according to the Venetian Way by Ballotting. At one Assembly the Candidate is proposed by some that know him well; the next Meeting he may be put to the Scrutiny, for which the Candidate must have the Major Number of 21 Suffrages at the least, and then at that or the next Assembly he may be introduced, and solemnly admitted by the President: At his Admission he subscribes this following Promise:

That he will endeavour to promote the Good of the Royal Society of London, for the Improvement of natural Knowledge.

After this, he may at any time free himself from this Obligation, only by signifying under his Hand to the President, that he desires to withdraw from the Society.

When any one is admitted he pays to the Treasurer only 4s. afterwards 13s. a Quarter, so long as he continues a Member; and this is towards the defraying some necessary Expences for the College.

This Royal Society for Advancement of this noble Design, hath begun a Library, to consist only of such Authors as may be serviceable to their Design; towards which the Lord Henry Howard, Earl Marshal of England, was pleased to bestow on the Society his whole Library then at Arundel House in the Strand, (where this Society met for some time after the Fire of London,) with a free permission of changing such Books as were not proper for their Design; by which Means, and by other publick Gifts of Books, they will have a compleat Library of all that hath been published in Antient and Modern Languages, which either regard the Production of Nature, or the Effects of all Moral Arts and Sciences.

They have a Repository, which was the Gift of Daniel Colwell, Esq; a Member of this Society, which is kept in this College, wherein are to be seen many Thousands of great Rarities, some of them fetched from the farthest Parts of the known World, as Beasts, Serpents, Birds, Fishes, Flies, Shells, Seeds, Feathers, Minerals, Earths, some Things petrified, others ossified, Mummies, Gums, Skeletons, &c.]

Dr. Nehemiah Grew hath given an Account of these Curiosities in a just Volume, Intitled, Musæum Regalis Societatis: A Catalogue and Description of the Natural and Artificial Rarities belonging to the Royal Society, and preserved at Gresham College; Printed Anno 1681. In this Repository, there be Rarities (as they are digested by the foresaid Doctor) first of Animals, and that of these Kinds, viz. of Human Bodies, of Quadrupedes, of Serpents, of Birds, of Fishes, of Shells, of Insects. Secondly, Of Plants and their Kinds, of Trees and their Woods, Fruits, Nuts, Berries. Of Shrubs, of Herbs, of Mosses, and of Sea Plants. Thirdly, Of Minerals of these Kinds, viz. Stones, Metals, Mineral Principles, viz. Jet, Amber, Earths. And Fourthly, of Artificial Matters, as of Things relating to Chymistry, and other Parts of natural Philosophy; of Things relating to the Mathematicks, and some Mechanicks. Lastly, Of Coins and other Matters relating to Antiquity, with a List of those who have contributed to the Musæum. And being founded by Daniel Colwal, Esq; Fellow of the said Society, Dr. Grew Prefaced his Book, as with a Dedication to the Society, so with an Epistle to him who had offered up to the Society so noble an Hecatomb. He is likewise mentioned with Honour for his voluntary Undertaking for engraving the Plates of the Work, done in order to a publick Good. And in grateful Memory of him his Picture faceth the Book.]

To this Repository, many Rarities both of Art and Nature have been since added by other worthy Members of the Society, and by other ingenious Persons; and if it increaseth as in probability it will, it is like to be one of the largest, and filled with the most Curiosities of Nature of any in the World.

To conclude, as King Charles II. gave to this Society a Patent, with a Coat of Arms, so for the promoting of Arts and Sciences, and to encourage Learned Men, he was pleased after the Example of the greatest and most renowned Monarch that ever was in Europe, to enroll himself one of the Society.

The time of meeting for this Society is on Wednesdays at three a Clock in the Afternoon.

The time of Election for the Members of Council, out of the Fellows, is upon the Feast of St. Andrew in the Morning, after which they all Dine together at a Venison Feast.

Of the Council, Eleven of the Old Ones are to stand for the ensuing Year; the rest to be Elected out of the rest of the Members.]

Here follows A LIST of the Royal Society, as was in the Year 1704, and coming to my Hand, is presented here. The Number of them at this time increased double, as may be found in the last Edition of the Present State of Great Britain.
