October. Until 1917. The journal Apollon edited by Sergei Makovskii published in St Petersburg. The journal associated itself with the traditions of World of Art, attempted to encompass 'all new sprouts of artistic thought', and distanced itself from any ideological commitments and the modernism of Zolotoe Runo. The first issue included Benua's article 'V ozhidanii gimna Apollonu' ('Awaiting the Hymn to Apollo') in which he declared that 'a new Renaissance' would bring unity between art and life.
