December. First major display of avant-garde art in Russian Empire. The exhibition, entitled 'Izdebskii Salon', was opened in Odessa by Vladimir Izdebskii. It showed 900 works by 150 artists, such as Henri Matisse, André Derain, Albert Marquet, Natal'ia Goncharova, Mikhail Larionov, Vasilii Kandinskii, Robert Fal'k, Aleksandra Ekster, Aristarkh Lentulov, Marianna Verevkina, Aleksei Iavlenskii as well as work by members of the World of Art group, the Union of Russian Artists, the Union of Artists of the South of Russia, displays of Russian folk art and of children's art. The exhibition was moved to Kiev and St Petersburg in 1910.
