The Digital Humanities Institute and the School of English worked with Sensoria Festival to develop a mobile application which provides users with access to a location-based guide to Sheffield’s musical heritage. The app builds upon Sensoria’s already successful website called Uncommon People which invites the public to submit footage, photos and anecdotal memories.
Whilst developing the mobile application, the DHI and Sensoria ensured that the system could be used by other content creators for other types of location-based guides. When finished, other projects, organisations and individuals were able to apply for an account on the system, add their own content and generate their own mobile application. The system has already been used by other content creators:
- Jo Wingate (Sensoria)
- Nigel Humberstone (Sensoria)
- Dr Matthew Cheeseman (University of Sheffield)
- Ryan Bloor (Developer – The Digital Humanities Institute)
- Michael Pidd (The Digital Humanities Institute)
