The research aims of the project were to investigate two broad areas: firstly, the emergence of art criticism and art theory as a distinct genre in Russia from the period both prior to, and inclusive of, the establishment of Mir iskusstva; secondly, to investigate the ways in which newly evolved art criticism affected artistic developments in the second half of the 19th century and the early 20th century.
The major output of the project is in electronic form as a web-site, but hard-copy publications in the form of articles and longer works have also emerged.
