François-Philippe Gourdin (d. 1823)

First librarian of the Municipal Library of Rouen. Born in 1739, he became a novice in the abbey of Jumièges in 1760 and was a monk at St.-Ouen in Rouen from 1778, where he was the librarian. He was an important figure in Rouennais intellectual life before Revolution. After the French Revolution he undertook to safeguard the historic book collections in Rouen and the Seine-Inférieure department, and in 1791 Gourdin was put in charge of the libraries by the new regime.
