King Henry VI of England (d. 1471)

Born in 1421, the son of Henry V and Catherine of Valois, he succeeded his father as king of England when less than a year old. A weak ruler lacking leadership to control the political factions when his country was involved in an increasingly unsuccessful war with France, Henry saw his kingdom fall into civil conflict which led, finally, to his deposition by Edward, son of Richard, duke of York, in 1461. Briefly restored to the throne a decade later, he died, probably murdered, in 1471.
