Ar. Poet.
From Thursday June 5. to Thursday June. 12. 1651.
IT being still asserted with boldness by
some, ( notwithstanding what passed
in our last,) That the Crown
hath been derived since the Conquest
in an orderly succession; and since
it is a hard matter to perswade men
to the contrary, I shall here insert
an Abstract that was formerly made
touching all their Titles; the vanity
whereof must needs be apparent, when they, and their Titular
pretences shall be weighed in the balance, by serious
and indifferent men.
Our Chronicles will plainly tell you, that after the death
of William the Conquerour, his sons, the two succeeding
Kings, William Rusus, and Henry the first, made good their
successions by the Sword, against Robert their elder brother;
as did King Stephen a stranger, against Maud the Empress,
the right heir of that Henry.
