{Ar. Poet.
From Thursday, Septemb. 5. to Thursday, Septemb. 12. 1650.
ALAS, poore Tarquin, whither wilt thou go!
you know, in Numb. 5. I told you, all
my Feare was, that He and His Jockies
would never stand to it, and that one
Rout or Retreat would make Them not
worth a Pamphlet; and then I and my
man Mercury should be out of employment.
I told you likewise, that the late rumor of a Rout
which came by the way of Carlisle, was as it were the forestalling
of a Victory, and that it would prove a Propheticke piece of
Intelligence; which being now fulfilled to the purpose, wee
must convert our Satyrs into praises, our Boasting into Humility,
our wits into Admiration, and imploy all our Faculties
to magnifie the good hand of God toward us; for This
is his doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes, and in the eyes of
our Enemies, Themselves being Judges.
