Beginning Monday February 5.
THe House of Commons this Day (according to former
Order) resumed the debate concerning the House of
Lords, whether they should be continued a Court of
Judicature or a Court consultary only (though they have
voted the supream power to be in themselves) this debate
held till six at night; the thing in debate was, that it might
be referred to a Committee, to consider what power or
constitution the Lords should have, but the season of the
night requiring Candles, the House was divided, whether
there should be any brought in or not, to finish this
debate, and it was carryed in the negative, so the house rose, ordering to resume
this debate tomorrow. The House of Lords fate this day for a little time, and sent
down the same Messengers with the same Messages as they did the last week, for
appointing a Committee to joyne with a Committee of their house to consider
of settling the Kingdome, but they were never called into the House. The Lords
adjourned till tomorrow nine of the clock in the morning.
The Commons agreed upon an answer to the Dutch Embassadors, taking notice
of their desire of continuance in amity with this Kingdom and return them thanks
prosessing their desire of the like with them and that it shall be their care to
continue the same : They thank them also for their grave advice concerning the
King; and let them undecitand that they have proceeded according to the Lawes
