The moderate, Number 48, 5th-12th June 1649 E.559[16]

Numb. 48.
The Moderate:
Impartially communicating Martial
Affaires to the KINGDOM of
ENGLAND.
From Tuesday June 5. to Tuesday June 13. 1649.
THings past (faith Livius) may be repented, but not recalled;
and things to come, may be easily prevented, if
complains much of her weary condition, and tedious
journey; and being almost overtaken, intreats speedily
a Treacherous Reconcilement, or Persidious Cessation.
The overture upon short and serious debate, begets a
positive Rejectment. This unexpected Response, diverting
the great Design, Royalty claps in afresh upon that
opportunity, and makes the Race disputable to every particular Party: yet,
If two to one, there's odds, but odds that will not be,
Integrity wins the Race, wee l lay you six to three.
June 5.
The Earl of Pembroke ordered to have his right in part as Cloringdon-Park, (his
interest therein (as he sayes) amounts to 4000 l. Per annum.) The Act for relieving
poor prisoners of debt, again reported, but ordered to be recommitted. This is an
Act of great charity; expedition would be very suitable and answerable to the favor.
The Instructions for doubling upon Dean and Chapters Lands, had this addition
to them, That the persons within twenty miles of London, shall have ten days time
allowed them, above the time mentioned in the Instructions on Saturday last. A
Petition this day was presented to his Excellency, from the five Companies of the
late Major General Skippon.
