Beginning Tuesday the 20. of March 1648.
THe House of Commons according to an Order the day
before, sate not this day; But the Councel of State
sate, And divers Committees sate, (viz.) The Committees
for the Act for the poor, for prisoners, for
Deanes and Chapters Lands, for the North, the Navy,
Goldsmiths-Hall, and Habadashers-Hall.
The Councel of State sate about the Scots papers
referred to them from the House of Commons.
For William Lenthall Esquire, Speaker of the House of
Commons, to be communicated to the Commons
of England in Parliament assembled.
SIR,
Having sent a paper of the 24. of Febr. Last given in to you by our Commissioners
with a printed paper, thereupon of the 26. of Febr. entituled a Declaration
of the Parliament of England, declaring the aforesaid paper, given in by our
Commissioners, to contain reproachfull matter against the proceedings of the Parliament
of England, and assuming power over the Laws and Government of that Nation,
with a designe to raise sedition, and lay the grounds of a new war in that Land, and
further ordering a message to be sent to Vs to know whether we will own the said
paper presented in our names; And hearing that our commissioners (being by command
from Vs upon their return from that Kingdom) are restrained, and a guard set
upon them.
