of some affaires and transactions,
Civill and Military, both Forraigne
and Domestique.
Licensed by Gualter Frost Esquire, Secretary to the Councell
of State, according to the direction of the late Act.
October the 30th. 1649.
From Scotland, 16. October, 1649.
FORM Scotland the sixteenth of October, wee have
that the Leird of Libbersoun went on board for his
Voyage towards their proclaimed King, the ninth
day at night, furnished with Instructions, which
he is very hard hearted if he shall refuse, and they
are like to be sufficiently unhappy if he shall accept;
he goes laden with the prayers of the Kirke; by
which they beleeve they can move the Heavens,
for they imputs the losse of Hamilton and his adherents,
for that he came to invade this Nation unfurnished of that Artillery:
But that is Scots Logique ,Becculus in Angulo, There was certainely
another cause, Intrinsicall Justice is the best foundation for a
State to stand upon, and she best moving principle to carry on any Civill
Action.
It holds still, that Kinnaul, and some say also the Lord St. Clare are
land[unr] in Orkney with some Officers from Denmark and Holland, who
could not subsist there, but no other Forces with them, of which the
honest party is very glad at Edinburg, for that they feare two parts of
three of that Kingdome will side with them against the present Governing
party. and they feare also that when their King shall come in,
though invited by the best party, yet he will be more ready to joyne
with the other.
