Compositeur: Wolfgang Amadeus MozartSources1. Manuscript: D-B, Mus. ms. autogr. W. A. Mozart 157 (autograph score). 2. Manuscript: D-B, Mus. ms. autogr. W. A. Mozart 157 (autograph score). 3. Manuscript: D-B, Mus. ms. autogr. W. A. Mozart 157 (autograph score). Orchestration/Roles: 2 vn, va, vc
Date: late 1772-early 17733 (paper, handwriting, letters)Place: ItalyDate and place of first performance: unknownNotes: In the autograph, Mozart first wrote “Basso“ and then above, “Violoncello“. It is unclear whether he intended to indicate alternative scorings or more precisely to specify violoncello for this work. Other quartets in the series K155-160 have differing indications: “Violoncello“ in K156 and K160, “Bassi“ in K158, and “B“ in K159; the autograph of K157 has no indication of scoring. The earliest reference to Mozart`s composition of string quartets during the second Italian trip is L. Mozart`s letter of 28 October 1772
