Composer. Ligniville became a member of the Accademia Filarmonica, Bologna, in 1758 and in 1761 took a position as court chamberlain and postmaster general in Florence; Grand Duke Pietro Leopoldo made him director of the court music in 1768. Ligniville met Mozart in Florence in April 1770 -- Leopold described him in a letter of 3 April as 'the finest contrapuntalist in all Italy' (letter 173) -- and it was under the influence of Ligniville's Stabat Mater of 1768 that Mozart composed the five-part Kyrie K89, as well as copying out some of its movements.
