Composer. Details of Lampugnani's early years are scarce, although he is known to have produced his first opera, Candace at the Teatro Regio Ducale, Milan, in 1732. In 1743 he was appointed resident composer at the King's Theatre, London, but in 1745 or 1746 he returned to Italy where he arranged for productions of his works in Milan, Venice, Florence and Turin, among other places. He was appointed harpsichordist at the Teatro Regio Ducale, Milan, in 1758 but wrote few operas thereafter. Lampugnani helped rehearse the singers for Mozart's Mitridate, Re di Ponto K87 and from the fourth performance of the opera on, directed the orchestra. He continued to work at the Nuovo Regio Ducal Teatro, later La Scala, until his death.
