City in the province of Trento. A fortress town geographically and politically situated between the bishopric of Trento and the Republic of Venice, Rovereto was part of the Habsburg domains and a meeting point for German and Italian culture and commerce. Musical life was largely centred around the church and cultivated by the local Accademia degli Agiati, founded in 1750. Mozart was in Rovereto from 24-27 December 1769, about 20 March and on 17 August 1771, and from 29-30 October 1772. On 26 December 1769 he played the organ at S Marco in the presence of the maestro di cappella Domenico Pasqui
