Berchtesgaden, Germany
A municipality in Bavaria, about 30km south of Salzburg. Although Berchtesgaden was for most its history an independent principality within the Holy Roman Empire, ruled by a Prince-Provost, it nevertheless had strong ties to Salzburg and for a brief spell, between 1393 and 1402, was ruled by the archbishop of Salzburg.
