In 1743, Bernasconi`s widowed mother Maria Gioseffa (ca. 1722-1762) married the composer Andrea Bernasconi (1706-1784), maestro di coro at the Ospedale della Pietà, Venice, from 1744-1753 and thereafter Kapellmeister at the court of the Elector of Bavaria in Munich. Bernasconi debuted there in 1762 in Temistocle and in 1767 was called to Vienna by Gluck to perform in Alceste (a performance heard by Mozart). She sang the role of Aspasia at the premiere of Mitridate, Re di Ponto. Thereafter she sang successfully throughout Italy and in London, appeared as Ifigenia in Gluck`s Ifigenie auf Tauris in 1781, and sang the lead role in Giuseppe Sarti`s Didone abbandonata in Lucca in 1786.
