Composer. A student of Padre Martini, Ottani was elected to the Bologna Accademia Filarmonica in 1765. He was appointed maestro di cappella at S Giovanni in Monte in 1769 and also worked at S Lucia and, later, at the Collegio degli Ungheri. A Laudate pueri by him was heard by Mozart at the annual celebration of St Anthony in Bologna on 30 August 1770 (letter 206). Later in the 1770s he was chiefly occupied with opera, which led to his appointment as maestro di cappella at the cathedral in Turin. Lit.: Basso, I Mozart in Italia, 625-626; Oxford Music Online.
