Milanese patrician, Cardinal and Archbishop of Milan from 1743 and 1744, respectively. To some extent a reformer - he followed some of Joseph II's clerical reforms in the early 1780s, including a reduction in the number of clergy and the suppression of some monasteries - Pozzonbonelli nevertheless also took steps to maintain the independence of his archdiocese from Vienna. He attended Mozart's concert at the home of Karl Joseph Firmian on 12 March 1770. Lit.: Basso, I Mozart in Italia, 641-642.
