Choreographer and dancer. A student of Noverre, Le Picq was by 1766 the leader dancer at Stuttgart; in 1767 he followed Noverre to Vienna. He moved to Italy in 1769, where he choreographed his first work in Padua. Thereafter he alternated as director of ballets at the S Benedetto in Venice and the Regio Ducal in Milan. At Milan he staged the first ballet in Hasse’s Il Ruggiero (1771) and Mozart’s Lucio Silla (1772). Le Picq was active at Naples later in the 1770s, moved to London in 1782 and from 1786 until his retirement in 1799 was ballet master at St Petersburg.
