Tenor. Cortoni made his debut in Galuppi's Demofoonte at the Teatro Formagliari, Bologna, in 1756; he subsequently sang in Stuttgart and Tübingen. Mozart heard him as Tancredi in Jomelli's Armida abbandonata at the Teatro San Carlo, Naples, on 30 May 1770. He was originally intended to sing he part of Lucio Silla in Mozart's opera, a role that was in the end taken by Bassano Morgnoni. Lit.: Basso, I Mozart in Italia, 533.
