Botzen, 22 December 1769
We arrived safely in Botzen yesterday evening. footnote1 Today I took my 2 letters to the post and at midday lunched with Herr Kurzweil, tomorrow morning we`re seeing Herr Stockhammer, to whom we were given a letter of introduction by Herr Ranftl. footnote2 This evening we`re going to see Herr Antoni Gummer. I still don`t know whether we`ll be staying here for Christmas Day or whether we`ll be leaving tomorrow evening. For the present, I think it would be better if you wrote to me at Roveredo, where I shall call at the post. I am in any case leaving instructions at all post offices, together with my name, which they already know, as I`m always turning up like a bad penny. We are keeping well, thank God. Give my best wishes to all our good friends, and do extend my most humble apologies to Frau von Robini: I wasn`t able to write to her on her name day footnote4 as I was just on the point of leaving Insprugg and it wasn`t until I was already on the road that I looked at a diary and discovered that Victoria is on the 23rd.
