Sig. Leopold Mozart, chapel master to his Highness the Prince of Salzburg, has a son of his with him, who at a tender age has made such great progress in music that he surprises all those who hear him, as much by his excellence as by his consummate facility in extempore composition. They have been particularly recommended to me by Count Rosenberg and by Marshal Pallavicini. I thought of sending them to you, Illustrious Sir, knowing the value you set on persons of virtuosity; hence I do not doubt that during their sojourn there, you will not fail to favour them with your accustomed kindness. And assuring you that I shall remain immensely beholden to your for this, I subscribe myself, with the highest esteem, Rome, 7 May 1770.
P.S. that you will receive from the said Mozarts two copies of the “Giornale Enciclopedico” for 15 March, one for yourself, the other, together with a “Mercurio” for the month of February, for the Prince della Roccella, to whom I beg you to hand them. I beg you, Sir, to make some special effort on behalf of my little Mozart, who is full of the best qualities. He well deserves to become known in the house of Tanucci, at least by the two young married people, to whom I beg you to remember me, asking them to receive my sincere good wishes for their special happiness.
