soknastæmpna (OSw) noun

A formalized meeting of the men of the parish dealing not only with matters involving the church. A local government of the parish to a large extent dealing with matters concerning fencing, grazing, harvesting etc., and as such corresponding to ODan grannestævne (q.v.). The soknastæmpna appointed representatives such as churchwardens who cared for the church building. Only appears as a legal venue for swearing a fire to be accidental prior to the case being handled at the þing (q.v.) 'assembly'.
