þingfararkaup (ON) noun

Fee paid by householders with specified minimum assets that entitled them to certain rights at the þing ‘assembly’. Also a compensation paid annually by householders failing to attend the alþingi ‘general assembly’, and conversely a compensation paid to those attending it. In Jó, travel expenses for a lögréttumaðr ‘man of the Law Council’.
