Transactions made at the market were restricted in certain ways, including requirements of specific witnesses and oaths in order to avoid accusation of theft and forgery. Conversely, general restrictions concerning purchases might not apply to torghköp, such as the purchase sum that women and children were allowed to handle and time limits for cancelling purchases (OSw SdmL). Appearing as torghkøp ræt (ODan), torghköp rætta (OSw) of lawful transactions, particularly concerning high status objects such as weapons and cloth.
