arþer (OSw) arðr (ON) noun

An archaic agricultural implement for preparing the soil by cutting a furrow without turning the soil. A plough, a later innovation, lifts and turns the soil. The ard was eventually replaced by the plough. Both were used in medieval Scandinavia, but in OSw laws the plough, ploger, is not mentioned until in KrL.
