lögeiðr (ON) noun

A lawful oath. In Grg Þsþ 49 this kind of oath is sworn on a book, though in several instances a cross is stipulated (e.g. Grg Þsþ 25). A passage in Landnámabók in which lawful oaths are sworn on rings suggests that the practice predates the Christian period.
