halfréttismaðr (ON) noun

A person who pays and receives half compensation for grievances. Children between the ages of 12 (or 8) and 15 were considered halfréttismenn (cf. GuL ch. 190 and FrL IV.36) as were unwelcome guests (Js Mah 33).
