Hannah’s research interests are in sociolinguistics and dialectology, and how dialect features are used in the construction of identity and social meaning. She is in the final stages of her doctoral studies in the School of English at the University of Sheffield. Her PhD thesis Sociophonetic variation in Stoke-on-Trent’s pottery industry uses oral history data to investigate dialect usage in speakers from the mid-20th Century, and examine how their industrial roles and everyday activities may affect the variation they exhibit.

Hannah provides editorial and content management support to the DHI on a range of projects.
