This day they went to William Emerson's house of St Peter of Mancroft parish and called for drink and Emerson brought them beer and they paid for it and came away. And the said deponent Edmund Houghton further saith that he went the last Thursday with two more apprentices to William Emerson's house to drink, and ten [o'] clock at night, of the same day. And there they found Henry Carter and one James Coates carpenter at play, with dice at a game called hazard. And Carter lost all his money and would have borrowed of William Emerson half a crown, but he refused the said Carter to lend him half a crown, upon which Coates pulled off his coat and gave it to William Emerson, upon which he lent him five shillings, and Carter lost all the five shillings that he borrowed, and then borrowed half a crown more of Emerson, and lost that so he went away without his coat the next morning.
