Showeth that upon Tuesday the four and twentieth day of March last past in the evening at the house of the said Robert Blomiley there happened a sudden and lamentable fire, which (by reason of the dry season, violence of the wind and remoteness of the neighbourhood, he living a large half mile from the town of Didsbury aforesaid) burnt down to the ground and consumed the dwelling house of the said Robert Blomiley containing two bays of building and some linen, woollen, apparel and other goods in and about [blank] to the utter ruin and undoing of him the said Robert Blomiley [his] wife and family, who have formerly lived in good quality [and] reputation, and have to their power been helpful and charitable [blank] the relief of the necessities of others; but are now destitute of house food and rayment… May it therefore please your good worships [blank] premises considered to grant unto your poor petitioner your... Request to all Parsons Vicars and Curates within the hundred of Salford, that they would be pleased (upon some Lord's day soon after...) to incite and [blank] up their several and respective congregations to extend their charitable benevolence to your poor petitioner towards his relief and reparation of his sad loss in this his deplorable miserable and indigent condition. And not only he (but we also whose names are hereunder subscribed being inhabitants of Didsbury aforesaid and other adjacent neighbours) shall acknowledge ourselves on his behalf most infinitely obliged unto your good worships and shall ever (as in duty bound) pray etc.
