Showeth, that whereas about a year and a half ago your petitioner did hire himself to work with Thomas Drinkwater of Manchester at his trade of cutting tobacco for the term of seven years, and gave to the said Thomas Drinkwater one bond of twenty pounds that he would work with no man but him for that term; and the said Thomas was to pay 54s a year wages. And it pleased god that your petitioner hath had a fit of sickness, since he recovered your petitioner hath offered his service to the said Thomas his Master but his Master now refuseth to receive him and saith he is not able to do his work, and will neither entertain your petitioner, nor suffer him to work with any other person but threatens him if he offer to work with anyone else he will sue his bond of £20… Your petitioner therefore humbly prays that your Worships will be pleased to take the premises into consideration and that his said Master may either receive him or otherwise suffer him to work for a livelihood where he can get it, and your petitioner will ever pray etc.
