Humbly showeth that your petitioner having been married to her said husband about 25 years and having a considerable fortune with her hath thereby lived together very quietly and plentifully until about two or three years since your petitioner’s husband falling in company with one Grace Tasker of Wrightington alehouse keeper hath been so far inveigled and enticed by the lewd and disorderly carriage of the said Grace Tasker that he lies there night and day sometimes a week together and thereby hath confirmed most part of his estate and now refuses to allow your petitioner any maintenance at all but on the contrary when he comes from the said Tasker’s doth beat and abuse your petitioner and threatens many time to kill her for that she is afraid of her life… She therefore most humbly prays your worships to suppress the said Grace Tasker from selling ale and also to order your petitioner’s husband to allow your petitioner some maintenance (else she mush beg the charity of her good neighbours) and also that her said husband may be bound to the good behaviour. And your good petitioner will ever pray etc.
