Whereas about a year since a petition being made by the inhabitants of Harpley unto the right worshipful the Justices of the Shire upon the bench at Lynn for the suppressing alehouses in their town, there was warrant granted and served accordingly: yet notwithstanding, since that time there have been more alehouses in that town than before. Wherefore we the inhabitants of the same town do once more petition that alehouses amongst us may be discharged: there being no necessity of having any at all in our town, as being no thoroughfare to speak of, and the neighbour towns round about us being far better provided for such purposes; we finally being persuaded that the unthriftiness, profaneness and unruliness of our town come especially from our alehouses.
