Sworn and examined deposeth and saith that he this examinate hath bought of Mr Andrew Taylor seventy and six tonnes of gascoigne wine the 26th day of January being Thursday, and that the same bargain was made between him and the said Mr Taylor the same day in Mr Taylor's chamber at the Talbot in this City, and that none other person was then present and that the bargain was by word only and not in writing, being examined for what prices he so bought the same wines refuseth to declare it, he saith that at the time of the bargain, all the said wines were cellared in this City, and he there tasted them, and saith that he doeth not know whether before the said bargain was made any part of the said wines were sold to any other person… He saith that he hath since sold of the same ones one ton to John Phillips, one ton to Randall Ince, three tons to Mr Holywell of Manchester one ton to Otwell Johnson, half a ton to William Massy, and hath bargained with Mr Thomas Thropp for two tons, which Thropp hath not yet received. Being asked what security he hath given to Mr Taylor for payment for the said wines or when the same are to be paid for or in what manner he refuseth to answer thereunto. And refuseth to answer to any other questions, and saith he will answer Mr Mayor to no other questions'.
