Examined where he dwelleth saith in Harkey in the parish of Halsall and county of Lancashire with Thomas Moore his father. Examined when he came thence saith about a month past and sithens hath been about Wigan with John Latchet. Examined how he maintained himself for this year past saith he dwelt with a gentleman one Mr Grey beyond York in Barton… Examined upon what occasion he came to this City saith to visit his friends and namely… Alice Halwood widow and so into Ireland and saith this day sevenight he came to this City and lay at the house of Richard Nokes and saith he brought from thence 30s in money which he gathers about viz of his father's 13s 4d and the rest of others his friends and saith when he came to this City he had 29s or thereabouts… sithens he came to this City and hath been in company of Ralph Halwood her son divers times and namely upon Saturday last past first he rose at 7 of the clock and then went into the Northgate Street… and meeting with the said Ralph Halwood willed him to go with him to the Castle to drink with A prisoner one Peter Dewsbury and there drank a pot of beer and thence came together about 12 of the clock and there came together up the Row and bought a pair of stockings at a stall for 2s 7d and a felt hat for 3s and about the High Cross Halwood went away from this examinate and this examinate went down to his house and there remained until he was apprehended. Examined what purse or money he showed or delivered to the said Ralph Halwood saith neither money nor purse.
Examined touching the premises saith the said James Moore came to this examinate's house this day sevenight and ever since until and upon Saturday last they kept company. Examined what purse or money the said James Moore delivered to this examinate: saith upon Saturday last in the morning in presence of Mr Hancock John Eaton tailor and the wife of John Thompson the same James Moore delivered this examinate a red purse in this examinate's mother's house which this examinate desired to have of gift and thence shortly after this examinate and the said James past forth and saith the said James gave and delivered to this examinate in the open street certain money saying take this in consideration I have troubled you and so this examinate took it into his hands and the said James said it was 2s 6d but this examinate saw not what it was which this examinate did put into the said red purse and then the said James requested this examinate to go down to the castle with him and did so where they drank a pot of beer and thence came together through the Rows where the said James did buy the said hat and stockings and saith afterwards about Phillip Phillips’ shop the said James departed from this examinate whither this examinate knoweth not: nor how he behaved himself and saith the said James bought a knife and gave the same to a prisoner.
