One [Hugh Shawe] that on the highway side keepeth a tippling house and their receiveth naughty and incompetent persons such as have borne children out of wedlock as the said Margaret had done at such as he deposeth she was in his house… That marriage was solemnised between the said parties in manner and form as they have deposed… Robert sworn clerk, who, as the deposed solemnised the same, being one year after demanded by divers honest persons thereof, affirmed constantly he new solemnised the same and thereupon made a certificate with his own hand to that effect And the said John Leighe and Hugh Shawe being thereof [illegible]… That Hugh Shawe her contest was put in place with them when the said marriage was solemnised where in very deed the said Hugh deposeth in effect that because he feared it was contrary to law he refrained going into the said place also at the first but to his remembrance did see the parties when they joined hands and heard Certain words.
