Saith that a little after midsummer last this examinate lying in the Row near Mr Robert Bleas his shop one John Williams of Dodleston labourer came to this examinate in the night time about 11 of the clock and called this examinate and desired him to go with him to walk up and down the row… and then come to Mr Bleas his shop and bade this examinate hold the pin of the door… and thereupon opened the door, and this examinate went into the shop, and the said William came after him, and they two looking into two or three boxes, this examinate took a piece of a sugar loaf, and seeking further the said Williams found some money in a box, and in a cap that was in another box, whilst this examinate was lapping up the sugar in a linen bag, and then went both away, and left the door open… And saith further that the said Williams took some pepper out… and when they ready to part the said Williams made this examinate swear that he would never tell anybody of this breaking of the shop… And saith and confesseth that that afterwards about a fortnight ago he this examinate and one William Roberts a little boy lying both in the row, did break open the said shop of Mr Bleas, and entered both of them in, and took 18d in money whereof they had either of them 9d a piece and drunk 3d a piece thereof at Ellen Glover’s house the day following, and a piece of iron and some sugar which they hid under Robert Wilding’s stall.
