That he this deponent hath known the arlate Mr Jacombe much overtaken with drink at this deponent’s house and is much addicted to drinking till he be drunk and particularly about this time two year last past... The arlate Mr Jacombe lay drunk in the common road betwixt the house of this deponent and the arlate Mr Jacomb’s own house and this deponent saith Mr Jacombe arlate is too much inclined to lying particularly giving out that he had preached before Oliver Cromwell in his time and at St Mary’s Church in Cambridge and that his sermon was in print, and also giving out that the present Lord Bishop of this diocese hath promised that he the said Mr Jacombe should never be turned out of his livings of Oulton and Guestwick as long as he live... That he this deponent did see the arlate Mr Jacombe stub and cut furze and brakes and mow corn and go with a scarth rake with a hedging collar about his neck in Oulton aforesaid within this 2 years last in harvest time and at other times mowing brakes and also hath used digging and hedging his grounds and walk to and fro in his breeches and hose with a leather garb about him.
He this deponent did in the years 1676 1677 and 1678 and in the months therein concurring know the arlate Mr William Jacombe to be an inhabitant of Oulton arlate and vicar there and known to be in holy orders... the arlate Mr Jacombe is commonly reputed in the parish of Guestwick a drunkard and much addicted to drink and particularly that he this deponent did see the arlate Mr Jacombe within the time arlate so drunk on a Sunday that he could not go to church to officiate and further saith that the arlate Mr Jacombe is reputed a common liar... that the arlate Mr Jacombe within the time arlate came on a Sunday within the time arlate to the parish church of Guestwick in an old piece coat without gown or cassock.
