
Examined where he dwelleth saith in a town called Ovell in Somerset… dwelleth this half year using the trade of a tapster with one Richard Keile innkeeper dwelling at the Sign of the Angel and with the gain thereof maintaineth himself. Examined when he came from thence saith a fortnight past he Came from thence himself alone… examined why and upon what occasion he came from his said service saith he thought his gain not sufficient and being in good apparel went to travel to this City where he was born supposing here to get some entertainment. Examined whether he had his Master’s good will to depart from him said he had. Examined what money he brought with him from thence saith 20s in gold and about 8s or 9s in silver. What apparel or other commodities he hath bought sithence he came from Ovell saith none saving a capcase which now he hath which he bought at Bristol for 18d and paid there for the Lock therof 4d, And saith he brought 20s in gold to this City and the rest he hath spent by the way travelling. Examined to what house he first came unto after his coming to this City saith to a house in Handbridge which he knoweth not and thither saith he brought his capcase and saith he had in that capcase a pair of hose a new chest and a little pewter bottle which cost him 5d at Ovell and filled it there with aquavitae before his coming from thence… Examined when he arose upon Monday last saith about 7 of the clock and then came into the streets and walked about the streets and came to the Northgate and there drank and so spent all that day.
