                    Fruit-trees
               Of <Planting or> Graffing of Peares
For the Graffing of Peares j went again to my Friend Mr Bampton for further information, whose fruit j tasted now again and saw his Trees that were graffed vpon a Hawthorne did yeeld in the yeare (1653) of our measure about 2.quarters (.20.London bushels) being 30.yards [space] growth (NB. the Tree is of thrice the bignes of his contemporaries graffed on Perrie stocks) no chokeins in it raw or baked more then in an other of the same sort, hee graffed it close to the earth and then put fine mould about the graft, and hee supposeth it gaineth roote from the Sions as from the thorne.
I saw a House hee remooved from a thorne hedge, which done hee grafted the cheife of the thorne hedge all with Peares, and

they also prosper. Now his ground is not properest for them they requiring a sandy mould but his is gravel, vpon a white Earth yet tending to moistnes, it lying vpon a low flat.
