            Extract. Basel the 12/22 Ianuary
A few dayes ago a matter of 700 men did sallie out of Rappersweil into the Camp of those of Zurich, which occasioned a fight, the killing of some on both sides. for this cause those of Zurich set harder to the place, & now batter it with 6 demi Canon: Tuesday last those of Berne did also march out (with 24 Colours, 26 piece of ordinance & 63 Wagons, with implements of fortification.) of their Campe. Whither their march goeth is not yet knowen. It is conjectured that they make their way towards Melingen, Bremgarten & euen to Lucerne it self, which is also gathering its troops together, Seeing Emsidlen, St. Gall, St. Vrban, Muri, Wettingen; & other Cloisters more are deserted by their Possessors & saued themselues up & downe into places of securitie. Schaffhausen, Solothurn, Freyburg, Appenzell, as also the Citie & Bishoprick of Basel keep themselues neutrall, & in the meane time endeuour to compose matters between both parties, if an agreement happily may bee found. yet keep themselues in a good posture; but the animositie beeing extreame, it is feared they will effect little
Whiles I am about to shutte these, newes comes, that the Customer of Holland with his Son who fledde with a great summe of money, is taken at Geneua & kept in prison 12777 Ducats & much more has been found by with him
